Music and films... x

Although this topic doesnt immediately spring to mind when thinking of the topic being bad i think it is important. Music and films do greatly influence our behaviour (just as celebrities do, as explained in a previous blog)
It has been proven that horror films has increased crime rates within certain societies. Whether this is due to people trying to copy those they watch on the film or whether it is from these films that people get ideas it is not yet known!
It seems an obvious conclusion that if someone watches violence on a screen they are more likely to copy it. After all psychology teaches us that we learn through role models and imitating behaviours! Even though we are aware of this parents still let their children watch violent films... is it really safe?!
Moving on to music now lol...
It has been discovered that listening to heavy metal music or rock music can increase levels of hostility and aggression!! Surely something shold be done about this?
Maybe its just me but i find Marilyn Manson very scary, i mean just look at that picture!! Is that really something we want our kids growing up looking at?
I think that we should be more careful what people listen to and watch, especially when they are at a impressionable age!

Skinny celebrities... x

Skinny celebrities have a lot to answer for! I understand that being in the public eye is ahrd and they come across alot of criticism but they have to understand that they are role models to thousands of young impressionable people and them being so skinny gives people the impression that they should look like that too.

Just look at Lindsay Lohan>>>>>>>>>>>>
She was once a 'normal size' and in my opinion looked healthy and pretty but since becoming more famous her weight has dropped dramatically!!! now she looks ill!!!! Any Lindsay Lohan fans who may have watched her over the years may think that they should be skinny like her.

In my opinion skinny celebrities can be held responsible for thousands of cases of annorexia and bulimia. There fans just want to look and be like them, why cant they understand that and stop their pathetic dieting?!?!

http://theskinnywebsite.com/site/

Comment: I agree with Faith, everytime i open a magazine it is always about who has lost or put on weight. Why is it so important? Who really cares what diet so and so is on this week? I certainly dont!!!! http://faithyj.blogspot.com/

Prostitution.... x

I wasnt sure whether to write about this topic or not. It is clearly an example of 'being bad' but i like to try and portray both arguments but i dont know if i can here...
I can't understand prostitutes at all. i know it must be very hard to need money that badly and for that i do feel for them, but to sell your own body?! Even the thought of it disgusts me!!
Prostitution is not only morally wrong, it is also very dangerous! How can a person feel safe whlist getting into a strangers car, offering sex?? The person could attack them, rape them or worse kill them!! And all of this risk for what? Money for drugs? a buzz? surely there are better safer ways!!
Comment: http://itsthethoughtthatcounts-samyh.blogspot.com/ After reading this blog my opinion has changed slighty on prostitution. Before i wished we could find some way of getting rid of it forever, as impossible as it seems, but this blog provided what i feel is a better solution. If prostitution was legalised then it could be controlled. This would result in no one getting hurt and it would become a less disgusting act. Girls wouldnt have to be scared all the time, they could be in control of their bodies knowing that there was someone there to protect them!
I think prostitution is a VERY important issue that urgently needs to be dealt with in one way or another....

Swearing.... x

Swearing is considered taboo in ours and many other cultures and yet everyone still does it! We learn as a young child what all the 'naughty' words are but not always what they mean haha.
I remember being young and finding the looks on peoples' faces hilarious when i would casually drop a swear word into the conversation pretending i didnt know any better haha.

Everyone reacts differently to swearing. Some people dont mind it but others are repulsed by it! One of my friends hates swearing and he completely refuses to do it, the nearest i've ever heard him get to swearing was when he was angry and shouting out 'freaking' :p

Comment: http://opinionsonbeingbad.blogspot.com/ I agree with Zoe, there is a time and a place for swearing and in some situations it is very rude and wrong to swear. I understand that people do it when they are angry, i do it myslef, but it is a shame how common swearwords have become to us all now.

What happened to the good old days where people were polite, hey?? :p

Bullying.... x

Bulling is very common these days and it happens everywhere, from the school playground to the adults workplace. But why do people bully?
The answer to this question is simple; To make themselves feel better! Everyone thinks that bullies are big, strong and not afraid of anything but the truth is people who bully often have low self esteem and need to make other people feel bad to make themselves feel better. That isnt strong in my opinion, infact it is very weak!!
There is a type of bullying that people can do without even meaning to, its called scapegoating. This is something which when i 1st rwad about it i instantly found to be true...
In every group of friends there is always one person who will be the butt of the jokes and who perhaps isnt treated as well as the rest. This person may also be blamed for things which aren't their falt. People, girls especially, can do this sub conciously but after reading about it i realised that i do it myself. I did some research into it and asked a few people i know and they too admitted they were guilty of scape goating! This happens everywhere from the playgroung to in people's own family! It just shows what a terrible world we all live in when no one can honestly say they have never bullied anyone!!!
Around a third of all boys and a quarter of girls admit they have bullied someone and 31% of us experience some kind of bullying as we grow up.
IT NEEDS TO STOP AND IT NEEDS TO STOP NOW !!!!!!!!!!

Reality Television..... x

The topic of reality tv is one which causes a great debate. Why are we so interested in others lives?!?!

Programmes such as Big Brother and Shipwrecked are an easy way for people to get on tv and try to do what they can to make themselves memorable...

comment: http://i-wish-philosophy-was-pink.blogspot.com/ says that reality tv brings out the worst in people as they compete for the big prize at the end however, i dont agree with this view. I am perhaps biased as my cousin was on the last series of Big Brother lol but i feel that it is shows like these that allow people to achieve their dreams aswell as providing entertainment for everyone :p

Some of the behaviour on these kinds of shows could be described as encouraging 'being bad' but i dont think it is meant to be like that. People go on and be themselves, they are REAL, they arent asking for people to copy their behaviour!

I personally feel that there is nothing wrong with reality television and it doesnt effect our behaviour, only our social life haha!!

Body Modification..... x

Body Modification can be defined as the intentional alteration of the human body for non-medical reasons. Examples of this are tattoos and peircings; both of these the majority of people have so why do some people consider them bad?

Another example of body modification which is not very common within our society comes from China. library.thinkquest.org/J0111742/footbinding.htm
In their society rich women used to like having small feet so to achieve this a girls feet were bound in tight bandages when they were very young to prevent them from growing! You can see from the image the effect this has on the feet, not pretty at all!!
Luckily this died out in the 1930s.

This image shows how some people can become obsessed with modifying their bodies. In my personal opinion i wouldnt want to look like this even for a halloween costume but some people spend their lifes making themselves look this way!
People have a problem with body modification because they think that God made us the way we are and we shouldnt ruin that by inking our bodies or peircing holes in it. I dont agree with this view; although i only have my ears peirced i cant wait to get my first tattoo (with i should be getting in the next month wooo). I can understand how extreme cases of body modification can offend people but it isnt our right to judge what others do with themselves.....

Smoking..... x

About 106,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking! This is a shockingly high number and because of this the government are now desperately trying to lower the number of smokers in the UK. They have created many hard hitting adverts and have made it very easy to access help to smoke smoking.
Many teenagers start smoking because they think it is cool but this is not true at all. Smoking can seriously damage a persons health; It can cause breathing difficulties and can even lead to lung cancer! Now what is cool about that?! Smoking is very expensive and a pack of 20 cigarettes can be as much as £6! They can turn teeth and nails yellow and make breathe smell aswell!
If people know that cigarettes can cause all this damage to their health (and their bank account lol) then i dont understand why they would start! I understand it is an addiction and is hard to quit but some people dont even want to try....
There are many ways which a person can get help to quit smoking. There is nicotine patches, nicotine gum, hypnotism and counselling. Quitting 'cold turkey' is obviously very hard but one of these ways surley must be of some benefit to those that want to quit!
People blame their smoking habit on being stressed but there are others way to releave this stress other than smoking a poisonous cigarette!!
My mum smokes and i keep trying to persuade her to quit but so far nothing has worked! She spends so much money on cigarettes and smokes alot each day. I am very worried about how this is effecting her health but i cannot force her to quit, unfortunately it has to be her decision....

Infidelity..... x

Infidelity can be defined as any violation of the mutually agreed-upon rules or boundaries of a relationship, and is a breach of faith in an interpersonal relationship.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infidelity

When two people are in a committed relationship, i dont think there is any excuse at all for cheating with someone else. Nothing good comes from it and people always end up getting hurt! When entering into a relationship people are happy and satisfied so if things go a bit 'stale' then speaking to the partner could possibly improves things instead of going out and finding someone else to make you happy. If a relationship was happy once then there is no reason that with some work it can be happy again. Cheating is an easy and a cowards way out! How can someone look someone in the eyes and tell them they love them and then go and cheat with someone else?!

When looking at infidelity it has been found that with men the affair is normally just about sex whereas females who have affairs often have feelings for the person they are cheating with. This is a stereotypical view but in the majority of cases is right.

Luckily i've never been cheated on (well that i know of lol) but if it happened then i definately wouldnt give anyone a second chance! If someone can cheat once and get away with then there is nothing to stop them from doing it again.....

Comments.... x

Comments: http://beingbadwolv.blogspot.com/ I read this blog on Infidelity and found the views very intresting. I agree that people who cheat on their partners are selfish and if they are committed to one person they shouldnt even think about going with someone else!! Saying that mens excuses make her sick made me laugh haha!

http://take-off-your-colours.blogspot.com/ After reading this blog i watched the film 'The Last Kiss' and found it a very interesting portrayal of infidelity. The man was in love but still cheated!!!! It just shows that you can never be too careful of who you trust lol!

http://beingbad01.blogspot.com/ This is a different view from the two above, perhaps as it is written from a male! I found it interesting that the figures of males and females did not show a great difference when it came to infidelity. I agree with this person that most people do cheat for the thrill.

Masturbation... x

Unfortunately i missed the lecture for this topic so i decided to do some research on it myself;

Masturbation is still a very taboo subject in society. Some people are embarrased about it and others feel it is wrong. I came across this American website....
http://whitehouse.georgewbush.org/initiatives/purity/advice.asp
this is an example of how strongly some people feel against acts of masturbation. They even go as far as saying parents should make their children sleep with boxing gloves on to resist temptation !!!!!!!!

Although many poeple wont talk about the subject it still happens more then we imagine. So is it right or wrong?
Everyone is different and no opinion on this subject will ever be right.
Some people just dont feel comfortable enough with their sexuality to experiment and touch theirselves whereas others feel there is nothing wrong with satisfying your own needs.
Many people actually do indulge themselves but dont like to admit it. It is mainly males who talk freely about how often they 'do it' and to them it is a way to show off infront of each other. On the other hand girls are more shy about the subject and dont really like to talk about it with their friends.
.........................................................................................................................................................................
As u can see the topic of masturbation is one which is very complex and the opinion on it will change from person to person! Personally i think that taking away a child's bedroom door and making them wear boxing gloves is a bit extreme but each to their own lol :)

What to do in the last week.... x

Comment: There has been a lot of ideas about what we should discuss in the last week.
I loved some of the other suggestions made, especially Zoe's suggestion of talking about bullying...... http://opinionsonbeingbad.blogspot.com/ That would be an interesting topic as im sure everyone would have something to contribute and bullying is very common! Im sure the majority of people in the lecture has been bullied or has bullied someone.
The big question is... What will the lecturer choose for us?!?!? lol.

Anyway, i thought last week's session on Infidelity was good although no-one really said much on the subject. In previous classes we have had a lively discussion about topics and if we had experienced it or not but this was different. I guess it shows that people are much more embarrased to admit they are having an affair and therefore know it is wrong!
It is a lot more common in todays society and many people get hurt by it. The reading we were given showed how each person can be effected by cheating. The husband/boyfriend, wife/girlfriend or the person they are cheating with!

Unfortunately i cant attend this weeks lecture as i had to attend a funeral this morning in Coventry :( i was looking forward to the topic of masturbation aswell as im sure some interesting stories would come out hahaha.....

My First Ever Blog Entry :)

Ok so i've got no idea what to write yet lol;

i'm meant to suggest something for us all to do in week 12, hmmmm.....

well i think i'd like to go on a trip somewhere instead of sitting in a lecture theatre, i think it's easier to learn that way!

perhaps we could go to a pub and see alcohol abuse happening in everyday life?! :p
